Grammy and Charlie

Grammy and Charlie, originally uploaded by J T. Ramsay.

I lost my Grammy Tuesday. I really thought she might live forever, but bone cancer took her to the Great Beyond. She was 86.

Words can’t describe what Grammy Hilda meant to me. She welcomed my parents to Boyertown. I grew up on her family’s farm, which was across the street from her modest, loving home. She taught me Yahtzee. Above all else, she was my only grandparent.

I’m so grateful that she got to meet and know Charlie. I feel very lucky to have had her in my life. She may be gone, but the memories live on forever.

Jamie Moyer Dominates Braves

Jamie Moyer Dominates, originally uploaded by J T. Ramsay.

I went to three games during the Phillies recent homestand, catching two absolutely amazing games and leaving before the now infamous Tasering during the other one.

Turns out all it takes to allay fears of the Phillies being snakebitten is Jamie Moyer drawing a bases loaded walk from Johan Santana and then twirling a two-hit gem 5 days later against another NL East rival.

That game still blows my mind. It’s the sort of thing you can’t believe you’re watching. I hope someday to see a perfect game, but this was probably as close as I’ve ever been and it still gave me chills.

When they’re on, they’re on. What a fun team to watch!

The Hurt Locker

Wondered if it was possible for anyone to actually make a film that captures the soul-crushing hopelessness of war without delivering a hamfisted message that turns people off. The Hurt Locker did that for me. Granted, it hasn’t changed the fact that we’re still heavily engaged in both Iraq and Afghanistan, despite electing a President who promised to change all that.

Work harder, Obama.
