Pitchfork Missed Another ’90s Gem

Not really, but Geggy Tah popped into my head while I was on vacation and I had to ask myself if it was real. Post-grunge wasn’t all Nickelback and Creed! There was tons of stuff like this.

It wasn’t all gold. I mean, there was this, too.

Yeah, I can remember biting my tongue quite often during college. People really liked stuff like this! What I need to do is get down a few songs that I feel really captured the evolving ’90s Zeitgeist. It was a weird decade!

In Case You Forgot How Bad the ’90s Were

Anthony Miccio and I have rhapsodized this song at great length. Heck, I even wrote about Secret Samadhi once for Stylus.

If you grew up anywhere in Pennsylvania in the ’90s, Live were inescapable. Think of it as a post-grunge Dave Matthews Band. You know, the sort of band that believes they are saving the word with each awkward rhyme. It was awful.

Worse? I’m guessing this post has just made me number one for “Lakini’s Juice” SEO. I guess that feeling I’m mistaking for pride is really just schadenfreude.

The Commodore 64

My post this morning about the Commodore Vic 20 got me thinking about how much fun I had with my second computer, the Commodore 64, which I’ve rhapsodized before.

One of the games I remember fondly is B.C.‘s Quest for Tires. As I may have mentioned, all of my games were pirated by one of my dad’s co-worker’s kids, so they weren’t marked on the floppy. I had to memorize the file paths of my favorite games. This was one I couldn’t remember. Damn, it was so much fun to play! Need to find a copy on the emulator, stat!

The Commodore Vic 20

Think your Windows-based PC takes a long time? This took forever. It booted from a cassette! It was an amazing experience to actually interact with something on the television screen. I can’t believe how lucky my sister and I were to have one. That $300 computer in 1980 would cost $793 today!

Hard to believe that this was my first computer. What was yours?

Some Musical Notes

Simply amazing. Still in heavy rotation.

I’ve become the sort of critic who likes spring releases. Give them time to marinate, I say. That new Liars album is still revealing new things to me.

Ready for a stunning admission? I still haven’t heard the new Arcade Fire album! I’m still aghast that Spoon opened for them.

What’s even cool anymore? I’m so old I remember when an 8.1 on Pitchfork meant you hit the big time.
